A resource developed for Core maths as an introduction to and summary of data sampling methods.

The PowerPoint contains a short task with anagrams of types of sampling to unscramble.

The Word document has questions asking students to remember and identify the four types of sampling needed for the Core maths course:

  • Random
  • Quota
  • Cluster
  • Stratified

Extract:

2. Match each definition to the correct type of sampling from question 1:

  1. Divide the population into mutually exclusive sub-groups, such as employment status, gender or age, then take a pre-determined number of participants from each sub-group to form the sample.
  2. Every member of the population has an equal, non-zero probability of being selected, and this method of selection is entirely based on chance.
