The algebra of straight lines

A presentation and worksheet looking at the connection between linear relationships and their graphs. Students will use tables to find coordinates that follow a relationship given in words, plot the graph to find patterns and use algebra to describe the relationship. A nice introduction for KS3.

Sample:

We know that 4 + 3 = 7.

We also know, when 2 + n = 8, then n = 6.

There is only one solution to each equation.

What happens when the sum of two numbers is 5?

To investigate, fill in the tables to show some solutions and their coordinates.
