Mental geometry - the disappearing tree
A whole class mental maths activity to get students thinking about transformations. A simple picture of a tree on a grid initially faces the class and is flipped in different directions so that only the teacher can see the result. The class are asked to draw what they think the teacher can see on their answer grids.
The teacher could also introduce challenge by rotating the picture. Students could recreate the activity in small groups, or even pairs.
