Starter/Plenary

A great maths starter activity on fractions which can be used to develop fluency in key skills over the course of a topic, or used for recall and retention spread throughout the year. This PowerPoint contains ten Fraction of the day tasks, each following the same format. With each starter, students need to:

  • identify the numerator and denominator
  • show the fraction on a number line
  • identify the fraction as a proper or improper fraction or a mixed number.
  • draw a picture showing the fraction
  • write an equivalent fraction
  • state whether the fraction is in its simplified form

Hi Rick, thanks for your message.

I'm afraid we do not have pdf versions of all our PowerPoint resources, just our Word resources.

I'm a non subscriber. There doesn't seem to be the option to download the PDF?

This was used as a starter for my year 7 and actually they cheered today when they saw it on the board! So thank you it is a very useful one.

A PDF of this resource would not be useless at all and could be quite useful in actual fact :-)

Hello Mia,

Non-subscribers have access to PDF versions of the Word documents. The PowerPoint resources of course would be useless as PDFs.

Apparently, this is only for your subscribers, which I am not. How about you denoting clearly which resources are free to accesss for everyone, so we, non-subscribers don't have to waste our time? Much obliged, Mia
