Collecting like terms treasure hunt
A KS3/KS4 Foundation Treasure Hunt activity to practise fluency in collecting like terms when simplifying linear algebraic expressions. Students need to find the correct order of the 24 cards in order to reveal a message. This resource can be used as a traditional treasure hunt around the classroom or as a group task. It would be ideal as a starter activity and could be adapted to produce a different message.

I used this with year 6 and 7 students and they thoroughly enjoyed it as a quick starter. As I changed the letters it spelt out a funny word and with the kids in pairs and with the letters jumbled in envelopes. My students raced to see who could get the word first. Very good resource.
